
Cheryl Thames, PT, DPT, PCS is owner and chief physical therapist at Pediatric Physical Therapy of Mobile. She is a Board Certified Specialist in Pediatric Physical Therapy by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties. Cheryl received both a Doctorate of Physical Therapy and a Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Wheeling Jesuit University, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a minor in Biology from the University of Alabama.
Cheryl began her career as a physical therapist in hospital settings but chose to focus on children beginning in 1998 while working at the University of South Alabama Children’s and Women’s Hospital where she provided both inpatient and outpatient therapy to pediatric patients. She opened Pediatric Physical Therapy as an outpatient clinic in 2003.
Throughout her career, Cheryl has shown a passion for learning about the latest research and developments in physical therapy for children. She has pursued extensive continuing education in pediatrics, including developmental orthopedics. Cheryl was the first therapist in south Alabama to offer intensive physical therapy, utilizing the TheraSuit and Universal Exercise Unit (UEU) with pulley and partial body weight support.
In addition, Cheryl is currently an adjunct faculty member for the University of South Alabama physical therapy school. She regularly accepts doctoral level physical therapy students from the University of South Alabama. Cheryl is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Academy of Pediatric Physical Therapy, and the Private Practice Section of the APTA.
Cheryl and her husband, Harry, are both Mobile natives. They have been married since 2001 and have two sons, Gus and Murray.
